BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS

Every vehicle’s brakes wear a little different, especially Colorado mountain driving. So a complete and bi-annual inspection is the best way to adequately determine the wear on the front brake pads and rotors as well as the rear brake pads and rotors. Automotive Revival offers a free brake inspection whenever your car is here for any service.

Replacement of your brakes and regular maintenance on them is a very important safety measure. When driving with worn down brake pads it can put you at risk of damaging the rotors, which is a more costly repair, not to mention the safety of yourself and others.

Most cars these days come with disc brakes on all four wheels. There are still some vehicles that have drum brakes in the back and disc brakes up front. Over time the pads get worn out and reduces the vehicle’s availability to slow down and stop. Same thing with the rear brake “shoes”.

Do I need to replace my brake rotors?

It is not required that you replace your brake rotors at the same time you replace your brake pads, but there are many reasons why it’s highly recommended. The main problem is that your rotors are most likely grooved, and putting fresh pads on grooved rotors is going to wear the pads faster. Using those grooved brake rotors could also cause your wheels to wobble once you add new brake pads. If your rotors are thick enough and there are no defects in pad area then there is no need to replace rotors each time.

What are the common signs that indicate I need my brakes replaced?

  • Squealing or screeching noise when stepping on gas
  • Grinding noise
  • Brake warning light is on
  • Vibration in the steering wheel or brake pedal

Things our techs at Automotive Revival will check when inspecting your brakes:

  • Thickness of brake pads
  • Check rotors, calipers, hoses and brake fluid condition
  • Perform a 35 pt courtesy check for entire vehicle . Test drive vehicle
